HOW TO DEAL WITH STRESS NATURALLY THROUGH GOOD FOOD AND EXERCISE

So we all get a little snowed under from time to time. Sometimes it can be the smallest of issues that push us over the edge. We’re only human and this is our escapism instinct – hence the urge to scream and run away from problems, which can be an overwhelming feeling in itself. So before we start telling you how to naturally cope with stress and remove it from your life, we will first address stress.

What exactly is stress?

Stress causes a surge of hormones in your body which are released so you can deal with pressure. These hormones will normally ease with time, but if you’re under constant stress, will stay in your system.

How bad is it for me?

A little bit of stress in our lives can be helpful. It can motivate us to perform under pressure and achieve more. This then releases happy hormones through self accomplishment. But when stress continues to build, it can lead to depression and anxiety which can make you feel physically ill.

What are the symptoms?

As with many things in our lives and the fact we’re all unique, stress can show different symptoms from person to person. Some of the most common symptoms are unexplained weight loss, trouble sleeping and sometime vomiting through being so anxious.

How do you cope with stress?
Talking about your feelings regularly – yes, even the guys along with regular exercise and diet will help cope with stress.

What kind of fitness should I do?

If you’re new to fitness, it is always worth having a quick health check with your GP to make sure you’re physically and mentally fit to get sweaty. This is always a must if you have been recovering from an injury.
For light exercise here is a list of exercise you can do to banish those stress daemons;

  • A long walk. Have a dog? Take him or her with you and make it last for at least an hour
  • Go for a light jog. Just 20 minutes of light jogging can reduce stress hormones
  • Go swimming. 30 minutes of swimming will have you feeling refreshed and relaxed – this is also a great way to de-stress if you’re recovering from an injury as you weigh less in the water
  • Yoga – the breathing exercises alone are fantastic for you

For those who want more from their workout and really want to sweat those stress devils out here are our favourite workouts;

  • A good long, intense run. Go for a hill, and make sure you have good footware
  • Hit the weights. We find nothing better than a good 30 minutes in the weights area to help burn the stress out
  • HIT training, or High Intensity Training for those that don’t know
  • Body combat sports.  Boxing, Kickboxing or as one of our team love… MMA – Apparently there is,”nothing better than picking someone up and slamming them to the floor to get rid of stress. The adrenaline just takes over and you forget”

After a good workout, all that sweat and your heart pounding you will feel refreshed, calmer and more focused to deal with any troubles you may have. Sportsmen and women have the lowest stress levels as they are so focused and always energised.  If after your first work out you’re not feeling any better, step it up a gear or try something new.
